What do you mean “Bogey Rating”? I never see that on a scorecard!

What is Bogey Rating?

Bogey Rating™ is based on the expected performance of Bogey players. Just as Course Rating is calculated for scratch, yardage, effective playing length corrections, obstacle factors are all considered. Bogey Rating is expressed to one decimal, i.e. 97.5, 87.2, 103.7. If you want to look up the Bogey Rating for your favorite course, the best place to see it is on the USGA Course Rating and Slope Database™.

If you take Course Rating and Bogey Rating and plot on a graph, draw a line between them, that is where the term Slope can be represented.

The following chart is for a tee that has Course Rating: 71.2, Bogey Rating: 96.1 and Slope Rating: 134

slope exampleTypically, the further a player goes back, the more difficult it gets. That line will tend to get steeper for the right than the left as the course gets relatively more and more difficult for the higher handicapped golfer.
