I'm playing against golfers who wish to play from a different set of tees than me. Can we still have an equitable competition?

Playing from different tees, Men and Women playing against each other

The World Handicap System accounts for players golfing from different tees, or Men and Women playing from the same tee. This is outlined in the Rules of Handicapping, Calculation when multiple tees with different pars are used in a competition, 6.2b

If you are using the GHIN mobile app’s Handicap Calculator, you can easily check this.

Go to Handicap Calculator:

  • Pick your course
  • Choose 18 or 9 holes
  • Select tees
  • Add golfer (search or choose from following list)
  • Select individual tees

As you add golfers, their Course Handicap (C.H.) will adjust to the appropriate tee and anyone with a different par will be further adjusted. If the tees do have different Pars, the Playing Handicap (P.H.) is where you’ll find the correct value. Match play handicaps will be properly adjusted in the Shots Off (S.O.) column.

All adjustments are made in relation to the person playing the higher Par.

It’s good to note that a Tournament Committee may further adjust Handicaps due conditions of the competition.
