I'm just establishing my handicap and it seems really low. Why?

My handicap is new and seems too low.

A full scoring record is made up of 20 current scores, and the WHS will take 8 of the lowest Score Differentials to calculate the Handicap Index. Until a player has 20 rounds, however, a smaller number of rounds are used, and additional adjustments are made. This is because the WHS needs a significant amount of data in which to determine the player's best ability, and until then will employ conservative safeguards. In this way the system is "protecting the field" while the player works to establish their handicap.
