What do you look at when rating a course?

Course rating factors include: yardage, greens, penalty areas, and much more!

A team of trained Course Rating Volunteers, 10-12 people for an 18-hole Course, will show up at a scheduled date, to assess the golf course, typically in the morning.

Yardage and effective playing length (EPL) adjustments are the main key to rating. This includes: Tee to Green yardage, Roll, Elevation, Dogleg/Forced Lay-up, Wind and Altitude.

10 additional Obstacle Rating Factors are also assessed per Male and Female and each individual tee: Topography, Fairway, Green Target, Recoverability and Rough, Bunkers, Crossing, Lateral, Trees, Green Surface and yes, even the Psychological effect is considered. Each are rated on a scale of 0 (does not exist) to 10 (extreme significance).

Once all of the raw data is gathered, it is entered into an app that works the magic and calculates a considerable amount of formulas. Once all of the numbers are approved, the course will be contacted to coordinate going “live” in GHIN.
